DIY ADVICE
If you have decided to renovate your house, here are a few points to take into consideration. * Take out an owner-builder permit and make sure you are fully insured, because you are in effect the principal contractor and therefore responsible for site and employee safety. * Avoid using uninsured or unlicensed subcontractors. * Have a building plan that also takes future requirements into account, eg, will you want to sell in a few years, have more children, or maybe accommodate an elderly relative? * Aim for a broad market appeal. * Choose quality fixtures for better wear and a good impression when selling. * Do not attempt major renovations in the kitchen and bathroom without experience, as mistakes could be costly.
